Teachings From The Tower

My vision for the Tower as it serves me in my life. You can click the image to see the whole piece.

I’m participating in a tarot class hosted by my friend Callie French. One of our assignments was to take our “personal life challenge” card and make a collage card. To calculate this challenge card you add the number of your sun sign tarot card and the number of your ascendant sign. It so happens that my birth sign and ascendant are the same, which is Leo or 8-Strength. Which gets me 16, or The Tower card. Fun! LOL

Here’s my artist’s statement for this image I collaged:

Volcanoes are destructive forces. Their lava lays waste to everything in its path, laying a new foundation of earth. Once the lava cools, it becomes fertile soil for new life to grow. The planet up top is Mars, the astrological symbol for the Tower. Also, the largest volcano in the solar system is on Mars. The feather, represents hope: the chance for rebirth. It also connects this card to the next in the sequence, The Star. The series of bubbles, are the wishes and dreams cast out. It’s an unexpected touch, like the transformative power of the Tower to help us get what we want. The bottom text is a quote from one of my favorite songs, “Ground,” which reminds me to keep my feet on the earth and always go back to fundamentals. The vertical text, is the core message of the Tower: it’s destructive, yet it burns away what no longer serves, so we are free to explore what connects us to our soul’s purpose. This art may feel minimalistic in composition; however, I feel it serves the energy of the card… to strip bare and give the hint of rebuilding.

July 2018 Planning Spread

In this post, I’ll attempt to demystify July’s 3 card mini-spread from my Overview of 2018 spread. To recap, the three decks I used were The Enchanted Map, Triple Goddess Tarot, and Spirit Cats. I chose these 3 for their ability to give me concise info and for their ability to work together. The Enchanted Map card represents the theme of the month. The Triple Goddess card elaborates ways to achieve the theme. The Spirit Cats card gives me a guide card whose energy I can call upon when I need support.

Theme: #10 rock bottom
How: Tower
Helper: majesty

July’s 2018’s 3-card spread

When I think of Rock Bottom, I think about hitting a personal low. Everything has gone to hell and there’s no coming back from it. This month’s theme sounds a lot like disaster but it’s not. Strangely, this card asks us to surrender through challenges. The only way up from a deep, dark place is to surrender and gain perspective. So, this is what I will attempt to learn this month. See the challenges I’m facing, surrendering to them, and using the new perspectives to help me grow and rise up.

The Tower becomes the perfect mechanism to learn this lesson. It’s all about stripping yourself bare, to see what you are made of, so you can build your self back up, stronger. The flashes of insight during this moment give us power to see what is really important, and what our character is made of. Good stuff for a month all about surrendering.

Majesty is my spirit cat guide this month. She’s regal and helps illuminate the traits that make us shine. Surrendering and stripping myself bare is hard and dirty work. She’ll be next to me to remind me of the beauty that I am and to honor and respect myself as I work thorough this transformation.

June 2018 Planning Spread

In this post, I’ll attempt to demystify June’s 3 card mini-spread from my Overview of 2018 spread.

Theme: #3 wizard of awareness
How:
Knight of Swords
Helper:
patience

June 2018’s 3-card spread

Wizard of Awareness reminds me to be observant this month. Being aware of my internal and external worlds can push me into a deeper understanding of how everything works. It can help me spot trouble areas. It can give me insights to share and write about. It can also prepare me for what is coming by allowing me to release attachments. Nothing going on is personal unless I allow it to become such. This month’s theme will be a great lesson to remind me of this.

Knight of Swords is how I shall accomplish this. I have a lot going on and will keep my head forward and my game on what I am doing, rather than what is going on around me. I will use my smarts and ask good questions, which will, in turn, help my powers of observation grow.

Snugpuff, the spirit cat of patience, is my guide this month. Another wonderful synchronicity between the cards, Snugpuff will remind me to let go of the things not in my power, and keep focus on what is in front of me. I have a hard time relaxing and releasing. I am sure this month will not only challenge the speed at which I normally live my life, but enhance it by reminding me what is important and to really deep into enjoying those moments more.

May 2018 Planning Spread

In this post, I’ll attempt to demystify May’s 3 card mini-spread from my Overview of 2018 spread. To recap, the three decks I used were The Enchanted Map, Triple Goddess Tarot, and Spirit Cats. I chose these 3 for their ability to give me concise info and for their ability to work together. The Enchanted Map card represents the theme of the month. Theme: #33 Peaks of Joy
How:
Magician
Helper:
seeker

May 2018’s 3-card spread

Convention season has ended. I arrived home yesterday and I am feeling refreshed. This month’s theme is Peaks of Joy and boy-howdy can I relate. I’ve had an amazing three months of learning, teaching, and reconnecting to my tarot tribe. This refreshes me and fills up my batteries. Peaks of Joy requests I keep holding onto these things. They are a source of inspiration. From the special moments I’ve had and the insights gained, I’ll set the ground work for the rest of this year.

The Magician becomes the means to getting this done. My magician is all about manifestation: from creating good dreams, to hitting those goals, to spinning spells into the universe with intention. This is a month to really use my tools and push forth the new dreams I have going on. Let’s do this!

Spiral is May’s guide spirit kitten He’s a real idea generator; always curious and always seeking. I think he’s a perfect companion, yet again, for this month’s trio. I derive joy from making connections and generating new ideas. Once I get some good innovation going, I can then lay down the ground work for manifesting. It’s time to break out those lists and see what shakes loose.

Enchanted Kitchen: web series combining tarot and food

Tarot inspires life. It really does. From writing stories to cosplay, there’s a lot tarot has to offer. But, Tarot and food? Hey, why not! In fact, my friend Sasha Graham released a web-series describing the joy of combining the two. It’s called Enchanted Kitchen. Fun and informative, it combines tarot and recipes in a delightful way.

While tarot and cooking isn’t exactly a new concept, Sasha blends tarot knowledge, foodie lore, and setting witchy intentions into short episodes which make cooking look fun. (I hate cooking, I really do, and this got me excited to try out some of her recipes.) Her personality shines through each episode and it’s like she’s talking to you directly. I easily wished she’d invite me over for some meals!

There are six episodes total, so you get 6 quick recipe takes based around a card Sasha’s drawn each day. Each recipe looks good and not too intimidating for those who lack the skillset to create good food. Hands down, my favorite has to be “The Lover’s Cream of Tomato ad Grilled Cheese Soup.” I’ve printed it out and look forward to giving it a shot soon.

Great work Sasha and I look forward to seeing more Enchanted Kitchen episodes soon!
